SIGNINGS

"An Afternoon with David Guterson," the author of "Snow Falling on Cedars" will discuss his life experiences and writings, including his current book "The Other" at 2 p.m. April 26 in the Main Theater at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Meteorologist and children's author Kevin Janison will read from his "Deputy Dorkface" series at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. A book signing will follow.

Author John Michael Stuart will sign and discuss "Perfect Circles: Redefining Perfection" at noon Saturday at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 10834 W. Charleston Blvd.

EVENTS

"Under the Influence," featuring local poets sharing their original works and works of poets who influenced their writing, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Jewel Box Theater at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Melanye Price, assistant professor of government at Wesleyan University, will discuss her book "Dreaming Blackness," as part of UNLV's University Forum Lectures, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Marjorie Barrick Museum, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

"The Science of Screenwriting," a screenplay seminar with author Dan Decker, will be presented at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Main Theater at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

For National Reading Month, all Borders locations in the Las Vegas Valley will be collecting new books through Friday to benefit Child Haven's Through the Eyes of a Child Foundation. Participants who donate a book will receive a two-for-one ticket offer to magician Mac King's comedy show at Harrah's Las Vegas.

The Amazing Reads Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

The SNAFFU Science Fiction Book Club meets at 2 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month; and the Contemporary Fiction Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Cover 2 Cover Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.

The Spring Valley Book Discussion Group meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

The Sahara West Book Discussion Group meets at 7 p.m. the last Thursday of each month; the Murder in the Library group meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month; and the Desert Hearts romance book club meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The Fantastic Classics Book Club meets at 7:15 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month and the Mystery Readers Book Club meets at 7:15 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson.

The Malcolm Adult Book Chat meets at 4:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Lydia Malcolm Library, 2960 Sunridge Heights Parkway, Henderson.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Borders bookstore, 2190 N. Rainbow Blvd., has a writers' group at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

The monthly Poet's Corner is the third Friday of the month at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

STORY TIMES

Story time with music and crafts is offered Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and the second Saturday of the month at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St., Henderson.

Story time in the Square is offered at 11 a.m. Wednesdays in Children's Park at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Individual libraries within the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offer a variety of story times and special events for children of all ages throughout the year. Most libraries require registration for their programs. Call the libraries for details.
