SIGNINGS

Ozzy Osbourne will sign "Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy: Advice From Rock's Ultimate Survivor" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Barnes & Noble, 2191 N. Rainbow Blvd. Wristbands will be issued beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday. An original receipt of "Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy" must be presented for a wristband (631-1775).

EVENTS

"What Are You Reading?" is a pre-festival event of the Vegas Valley Book Festival, and will feature readings from the festival's keynote authors Max Brooks and Jane Smiley, literary charades and an appearance by the Nevada Repertory Dance Theater at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Windmill Library, 7060 W. Windmill Lane, free (229-5431).

The Black Mountain Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will present a reading with Laura van den Berg at 7 p.m. Thursday at UNLV's Greenspun Hall Auditorium, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Berg will read from her collection of stories in "What the World Will Look Like When All the Water Leaves Us." The event is free (895-5542).

Author H. Lee Barnes will read from his book "When We Walked Above the Clouds" at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Room D-101 at the College of Southern Nevada's West Charleston campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.

"The Parallel Universes of Mid-century Las Vegas and Havana," a panel discussion on resort development, architecture, lifestyle and Mob connections, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at El Cortez, 600 Fremont St. A reception will follow at the Morelli House, 861 E. Bridger Ave. Both events are free (229-5431).

Author Patricia Nell Warren will discuss growing up on the Grant Kohrs Ranch in Deer Lodge, her career in gay fiction and her latest anthology at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Jewel Box Theater at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The free event is part of the Out West at the Library series of programs. A book signing and reception will follow the talk (507-3459).

The Breakfast Book Club meets at 11 a.m. the third Friday of the month at Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave.

The Spring Valley Book Discussion Group meets at 1 p.m. the third Sunday of each month at Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

The Sahara West Book Discussion Group meets at 5:30 p.m. the last Thursday of each month; the Murder in the Library group meets at 5:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The Classics Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month at Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The Henderson Writers Group meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the Running Rebel Plaza, 4550 S. Maryland Parkway; and the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month at Saxby's Coffee Lounge, 72 Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson.
