SIGNINGS

Author Matthew O'Brien will sign and discuss "Beneath the Neon" and "My Week at the Blue Angel" at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 8915 W. Charleston Blvd.

EVENTS

An African-American Local Authors Symposium will be presented at 3 p.m. Saturday in the large conference room at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The panel discussion also will feature a mini-book fair and book signings. Seating is first-come, first-served, and admission is free. For more information, call 507-3458.

The Vegas Valley Book Festival is seeking help from local book clubs in the selection of authors to appear at the 2011 Vegas Valley Book Festival. E-mail suggestions and book club information to eihorn@aol.com, or contact Eileen Horn at 454-9746. The festival will be Nov. 3-6 at the Historic Fifth Street School. Participating book clubs will be invited to special pre-festival events.

Author PJ Sheldon will discuss "Job Hunting Strategies & Tips" at 6 p.m. Thursday at Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson. A book signing will follow.

The Mahogany Circle Book Club meets at 11 a.m. the first Saturday of the month at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Centennial Hills Readers Circle meets at 10:30 a.m. the first Tuesday of each month at Centennial Hills Library, 6711 N. Buffalo Drive.

The Rainbow Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.

The Mesquite Club Book Club meets at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at Mesquite Club House, 702 E. St. Louis Ave. in Las Vegas.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Borders bookstore, 2190 N. Rainbow Blvd., has a writers' group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

The Henderson Writers Group meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the Running Rebel Plaza, 4550 S. Maryland Parkway; and the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month at Saxby's Coffee Lounge, 72 Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson.

STORY TIMES

Story time with music and crafts is offered Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St., Henderson.

Story time in the Square is offered at 11 a.m. Wednesdays in Children's Park at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Individual libraries within the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offer a variety of story times and special events for children of all ages throughout the year. Most libraries require registration for their programs. Call the libraries for details.
