College to host ninth annual back-to-school fair

The Cheyenne Campus of the College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., will host its ninth annual Back to School Health & Educational Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 18.

This year's event will include face painting, a fashion show, dental check-ups, immunizations, finger printing, school supplies, refreshments and additional educational activities.

Returning again this year will be performers from "Ka." They will work with youths through the Good Knight anti-abduction program.

Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 participants are expected to attend.

There will be nearly 50 vendors on hand distributing educational and community service materials.

Opening event ceremonies for the fair will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. under the tent outside the rear entrance to the college.

Attendees will receive a welcome from the College of Southern Nevada's administration, major sponsors such as Clark County Air Quality, Fitzgeralds, Wal-Mart, Office Max, Operation Lasting Peace, Univision radio personalities and other sponsors.

Entertainment also is scheduled throughout the day.

Volunteers also will participate in the back-to-school fundraiser Aug. 11, during the Community Walk & "Stuff-A-Pack" Campaign. Volunteers will assist with everything from passing out bilingual fliers to thousands of families across Clark County to stuffing backpacks with school supplies at local Office Max.

The walk is slated to have nearly 200 volunteers participating throughout Southern Nevada.
