NICHOLAS J. HORN THEATRE

Aldridge Theatre performs 'Fences'

The Ira Aldridge Theatre Company of Nevada will perform the August Wilson drama "Fences" at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre at the Cheyenne Campus of the College of Southern Nevada.

Admission is $30 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. For reservations, call 651-5483.

Set in the 1950s and directed by Walter Mason, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play has been acclaimed as one of the most significant black plays of the 20th century.

The two-act play chronicles the lives and legacies of four generations of black Americans in an urban industrial city.

Cast members include Anthony Brady as former baseball star, garbage collector and family patriarch Troy Maxson, and Earl Grant Harrison, Rochelle Hooks, Rick Davenport, Hasani Palacio, Isaiah Lucas and Kierra Baltimore as Troy's friends and relatives.

Producer, director and actor Mason heads up the Ira Aldridge Theatre Company, a nonprofit organization that provides professional theater training for people of all ages and acting experience.

"In my experience, this is one of the best written plays showing the activity of many families and several generations, the conflicts and attempted solutions that surround their lives," Mason said.

There will be an additional performance of "Fences" on Thursday for a VIP, invited-guest fundraiser to benefit the CSN Performing Arts Center.

The Nicholas J. Horn Theatre is located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
