County provides summer activities for area youth

Winchester Cultural Center is the heart of performing and visual arts for Clark County Parks and Recreation and offers a day camp for children ages 6 through 17. The Arts and Learning Summer Camp at Winchester Cultural Center starts July 2 and runs for eight weeks, through Aug. 24.

Each week of camp at Winchester Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, will focus on a different learning area. Camp costs $95 a week, except for the first week, when it will be closed for the Fourth of July and drops to $76. Parents may pay by the month for lower rates. July 2-27 is $342, and July 30-Aug. 24 is $360. Included in the camp cost are breakfast, lunch and weekly field trips that tie into each weekly theme. For questions, call the Winchester front desk at 702-455-7340.

The county has a number of other summer programs for children. Athletic Adventures is a program designed to provide fun athletic activities for teenagers ages 13 to 17 during summer break. The program meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week at Desert Breeze Community Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.

A weekly schedule is available that will inform participants of the itinerary and what they need to bring or wear in order to be prepared for each day. For more information, visit the county website at www.clarkcountynv.gov or call 702-455-8334.

Clark County Parks & Recreation will offer two summer sleep-over camps at Camp Lee from July 14-26. Omni Discovery Camp is for children ages 8 to 12, and On the Edge Adventure Camp is for teenagers ages 13 to 15. Camp Lee is in Mount Charleston’s Lee Canyon.

Campers stay in group cabins supervised by trained counselors. Meals are provided by a professional caterer. All meals, snacks, activities, supplies and official camper T-shirt are included in the $400 camp tuition fee.

Clark County Safekey will conduct a fun-filled Summer Day Camp program for youth ages 6 to 12 at four Clark County School District sites for summer 2013.

The summer day camps will run from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; cost is $70 per week. To reserve a spot, payment must be made for the first two weeks of anticipated usage. For registration details or program information, call the Safekey administration office at 702-455-8251.
