‘Daily 10’ plans to make splash

Summertime ... and the livin' is poolside.

That applies to locals and visitors alike -- including E!'s "Daily 10," which holds court at the Hard Rock Hotel pool all week, with a guest list ranging from "Dancing with the Stars" diva Karina Smirnoff to Las Vegas motocross star -- and tattoo mogul -- Carey Hart.

The 1:30 p.m. poolside tapings, open to the public, mark the first time the "Daily 10" has taken its show on the road, according to Catt Sadler, who hosts the show with Debbie Matenopoulos and Sal Masekela.

"Vegas just seemed like the natural fit for our show," Sadler notes. (Particularly because the "Daily 10" hosts are Hard Rock regulars, presiding over Saturday night "Smashtime" at the Body English nightclub.)

"The Hard Rock has become a home away from home," Sadler says. "So it's like going home to be poolside. It should feel really comfortable and easy."

Achieving that easy feeling, however, has required "a ton" of preparation for the "absolutely huge undertaking," she explains. "There are a lot of moving pieces."

Now that they've moved here for the week, however, it's party time.

"It's going to feel different," Sadler says of the studio-bound show's weeklong poolside vibe, expressing the hope that the "live ambience" -- from "fans of the show, fans of the Hard Rock, fans of Vegas in general" -- will translate to the small screen.

"Dog" tales: National Geographic Channel's "Dog Whisperer," featuring Cesar Millan, is heading to Las Vegas in two weeks to shoot segments for its fourth season. But first, the show needs locals with "any kind of dog problem," explains producer Sheila Emory. "The more unusual the better."

And the more "Vegas-y" the better, she adds, because the show aims to feature stories "you can't find elsewhere," including those focusing on local performers -- both canine and human.

"Underworld" ties: Cable TV's History channel recently wrapped a "Cities of the Underworld" shoot for an episode devoted to Las Vegas, with visits to Hoover Dam, the Bellagio fountains, the Fremont Street Experience and "some local drains," notes producer Cindy Peters.

The latter attests to the series' focus on layers of history throughout the centuries. And even though Glitter City's barely a century old, Peters explains that Las Vegas' "very interesting history, from a one-horse train stop" to an international tourist magnet, fascinates viewers just the same.
