Hey kids, help us solve the mysteries of Santa

We know Santa Claus. Santa Claus is a good friend of ours.

But, even after all these years, we must confess that a few things about Christmas' leading man still confuse us. In our quest to unravel these mysteries, we're turning to the experts.

Our young readers.

Because we wouldn't want to be accused of stinginess this time of year -- one thing we do know about Santa Claus is how he feels about that -- we'd also like to share the results of our investigation with all R-J readers.

So, here's the plan. First, we've put together a list of questions about Santa that we'd like kids to answer.

Second, Mom or Dad should send those answers to us by mail, e-mail or fax, whichever is easiest.

Third, we'll go through the kids' responses and invite a few of our young Santa experts to visit the Review-Journal, where RJTV anchorman Nathan Tannenbaum will ask them to expound, on camera, on their answers. They'll also receive a prize.

And, finally, we'll make a video to post on the Review-Journal's Web site just in time for Christmas, for the edification and enjoyment of all.

So, kids, get cracking. We need your answers by Nov. 25.

Mom or Dad, make sure you send the answers, along with your child's name and age, your name and a daytime phone number and address, to: Santa Quiz, Las Vegas Review-Journal, P.O. Box 70, Las Vegas, NV, 89125-0070. Or fax it to 383-4676. Or e-mail the info to jprzybys@reviewjournal.com with "Santa Quiz" in the subject line.

We'll start calling parents the following week for taping in early December.

So, here are a few of the things about Santa that puzzle us:

1. We're told that Santa goes all over the world the night of Christmas Eve. How does he do that?

2. We've always heard that Santa comes down the chimney. But we don't have a chimney, much less a fireplace. So what does he do instead to bring us our presents?

3. While we admire that red suit of his, it seems a little heavy for Southern Nevada, even during the winter. Why does he wear that red suit anyway?

4

4. We were always told that Santa likes milk and cookies when he visits. Are there any other treats he likes?

5. We understand the naughty and nice thing. But how does he really know who's naughty or nice?

6. We know where Willie Wonka found his Oompa Loompas. But where did Santa find his elves?

7. We know Santa is busy this time of year. But what does he do the rest of the year? Does he go on vacation? Where would he go? Does he have a hobby? Favorite TV show?

8. And, maybe there are questions we don't have that you do. If you had a chance to ask Santa a question, what would it be?
