Extension workshop focuses on best tree care practices

In an effort to educate the green industry and arborist community on tree care in an urban environment, Clark County Cooperative Extension will present its annual Professional Tree Care Seminar and Workshop. This year's event will emphasize the best practices for the first seven years and be tailored to consider the Southern Nevada environment.

The seminar will be held at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. It will be offered in English Feb. 1 and in Spanish Feb. 8. Both sessions are scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with early registration starting at 6 a.m.

Other topics to be covered include palm trees (early bird session at 6:15 a.m.); soils, mulches and fertilizers; proven choices for trees in Southern Nevada; staking and pruning; prominent diseases; and insect problems.

Cost of the full-day seminar, which includes handouts, coffee, beverages and lunch, is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For more information, contact 'Chelle Reed at 702-257-5536 or email reedc@unce.unr.edu.
