Glass artist, work on tap at Unicahome

Finnish glass artist Anu Penttinen will visit Unicahome to showcase her new series of glass birds of Iittala glassworks, as well as other unique pieces.

Scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the event will be held at Unicahome's new 12,000-square-foot showroom, located at 3901 W. Russell Road.

"Anu Penttinen is a standout talent in this medium," said Hugh Fogel, president of Unicahome. "Her work has been displayed in some of the top galleries in the world. Her work spans everything from extremely contemporary pieces that are very tactile to humorous pieces that take their cue from cartoons and pop culture."

Penttinen has designed each bird to capture a unique personality; they were introduced earlier this year as an extension of the popular series developed decades ago by Oiva Toikka.

She will sign her works during the special event and a portion of each bird sale will benefit The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. The evening also will include a raffle, refreshments by Valley Cheese & Wine and bird videos.

For additional information, call 616-9280.
