Backyard orchards focus of free class

Have you ever wanted to plant a small orchard in your Las Vegas backyard? Now is your chance to attend a free overview class on small-scale and backyard orchard production.

The class will be offered twice Monday at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 S. Maryland Parkway. Two sessions, both covering the same topics, will be offered. They are scheduled from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Bob Morris, a horticulture specialist for the Cooperative Extension, will teach the course. He will discuss fruit production methods in hot, dry desert conditions, selection of fruit trees, proper planting and care, how to increase fruit size and pest control.

Additionally, he will present a monthly calendar of operations to produce high-quality fruit.

For more information, contact Morris at 257-5509 or e-mail him at morrisr@unce.unr.edu.
