Thinning pears, grapes topics of workshops at orchard

A workshop about thinning the Asian pear will be held at 9 a.m. May 4 at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extenion Master Gardener Orchard in North Las Vegas.

The orchard will hold a workshop about table and wine grape thinning at 10:30 a.m. May 11.

Master gardener Yutaka Nomura will lead both sessions, show how to thin Asian pears and grapes, explaining why thinning the fruit will improve their size and quality.

Both sessions are free and open to the public.

The orchard is at 4400 Horse Road in North Las Vegas. It is a research and demonstration facility designed to test the suitability of fruit and vegetable varieties and transfer the knowledge on how to grow them in our harsh Mojave Desert climate.
