Kick up your heels at St. Patrick’s Day dance

Green attire is encouraged for guests attending a St. Patrick's Day dance, with music performed by the Carl Grove Combo, set from 7 to 10 p.m. March 15 in the Charleston Heights Arts Center's ballroom.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the performance and may be obtained by phone or at the arts center's box office, 800 S. Brush St. Discounts for groups of 15 or more are available. Call 229-6383 for details.

The combo's play list includes songs from the 1940s to the '70s, from swing and fox trots to Latin and jazz.

Tenor saxophonist Grove, trumpet and flugelhorn player Dick Guider, drummer Bob Grundy, keyboardist Peter Urquidi and vocalist Marsha K all have extensive resumes.

Grove played with the U.S. Navy Band before moving on to the Gene Krupa, Woody Herman and Russ Morgan orchestras.

Guider, former director of music for the Clark County School District, Grundy and Urquidi are longtime performers in local showrooms and lounges.

Marsha K had her own group in California and also sang with the State Street Jazz Group.

The Charleston Heights Arts Center, operated by the Arts & Community Affairs Division of the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, is host to numerous cultural programs throughout the year.

Upcoming events include a free concert by the Las Vegas Wind Quintet March 20, and tickets are on sale for CJ Harding's tribute to Patsy Cline on April 13. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 on performance day. Call the arts center for more information.
