Mark Cuban funds wedding for cancer patient

A Texas couple got quite the surprise earlier this year when they got a random phone call that would allow them to have the wedding they’ve dreamed of for years.

It was a phone call from Mark Cuban’s assistant to let them know the owner of the Dallas Mavericks would like to pay for their wedding.

“I got a call from his assistant,” Monica Wilkinson told WFAA. “And she said Mark Cuban was going to help pay for our wedding. And I was completely floored. I thought it was a joke.”

The couple has been planning to marry since 2009, but a series of miscarriages, a late-term stillborn daughter and financial struggles have pushed back the wedding repeatedly, according to WFAA.

Then in January, Monica was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, underwent emergency surgery and is now going through the process of chemotherapy and will then begin radiation therapy.

“It just was seeming like every dream we had was just completely out of reach for everything,” Monica said.

The couple married in April and are thankful to Cuban for the memories of their wedding day that they now have.

“Now we actually have those memories that can actually get us through,” Monica said. “I can go back and have those pictures now and have a reason to smile. Because I got to feel special and it was all thanks to Mark Cuban.”

According to the Huffington Post, this generous act isn’t the only one in the recent past from the billionaire. Last week Cuban gave a large donation to a volunteer fire department that has been through tough times.
