Martin family honored by International Scouting Museum
Frank Martin and his family were honored during the annual Lloyd D. George Family Values Award Dinner Nov. 7 at Green Valley Ranch.
The event benefited the Las Vegas International Scouting Museum, which is outgrowing its home at 2915 W. Charleston Blvd. and will eventually move to a larger facility.
The Family Values Award was created for individuals and/or families whose personal ethics are representative of the Boy Scout oath and law. In May 2004, the Federal Code of Conduct Ethics Committee approved U.S. District Judge George's name to be associated with this award.
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nevada, served as honorary dinner chairman, along with honorary dinner co-chairs Robert A. (Tim) Snow, Steve Lords and Ray Newmiller.
Former Sen. Richard Bryan was master of ceremonies. Other participants in the program included Steven Heimark, an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow from Henderson, and David Dwyer, a member of the museum's board of trustees.
The dinner speaker was Robert Lynn Horne, founder of the Las Vegas International Scouting Museum and its current executive director. Horne spoke about the mission of the museum's soon-to-be permanent 55,000-square-foot facility that will house 115,000 items of Scout memorabilia, which the board is trying to fund.
Frank Martin and his wife, Bonnie, accepted the Family Values Award. The Martins were high school sweethearts at Rancho High and have been married for 35 years. Frank Martin founded Martin-Harris Construction in 1977. Both Frank and Bonnie are involved in the Cutting Horse Association, having won many competitive events.
The evening concluded with ventriloquist Ronn Lucas.
