Nevada Chamber Symphony to perform at county library

The Nevada Chamber Symphony will present the premiere of its 23rd season at 3 p.m. today in the theater of the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The performance is free, but seating is limited. Call 433-9280 for details.

The concert features the Nevada Chamber Symphony String Trio -- Jennifer Eriksson, concertmaster; Mary Trimble, principal viola; and Barbara Gurley, principal cello -- playing a selection of custom arrangements of classical and popular songs as well as melodies from opera, stage, screen and radio.

"Summertime," "Unchained Melody," "Easy Winners," "Yesterday" and "Those Were the Days" are included with well-known classical pieces by Chopin, Mozart, Bizet, Donizetti and Toselli.

Sharing the program, the symphony will introduce guitarists Juan and Andres Vargas as guest artists.

The acoustic musicians were born in Santiago, Chile. They play arrangements of traditional South and Central American folk songs, including music of the United States and Europe.

Joining the duo is the new vocal ensemble VOCES.

Using no more than a couple of musical instruments, the group shares the beauty of Chilean music through their voices.

VOCES was most recently featured in the World Vibration Concert series presented at the Winchester Cultural Center.
