Nevada State Museum hosts Home Movie Day

Do you have old home movies that you haven't seen for years because you misplaced the projector?

Revisit those past moments at Home Movie Day at the Nevada State Museum, 700 Twin Lakes Drive, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Anyone with home movies may participate and the event is free and open to the public.

Home Movie Day features continuous showings of family films.

Participants showing films may narrate them for the audience if they wish.

In addition, historical films from sponsoring agencies and businesses will be screened.

Local experts will discuss conservation, storage and repair of old films.

Participants can bring the movies to the event to see if the films can be shown. Home movies already transferred to DVD or VHS also will be shown.

"At last year's event, home movies that screened were just plain fun -- lots of Easter egg hunts and backyard parties, Helldorado parades, and grandmothers' trips to Europe," said Barbara Slivac, curator of education for the museum. "Project organizers hope to uncover images of historical or cultural significance to Las Vegas -- old buildings that no longer exist, events like Helldorado parades, pioneer Las Vegans or celebrities, and movies taken at significant events."

Participants may be asked for permission to copy their films for depositing in the archives.

Event sponsors include the Cannon Aviation Museum, Clark County Museum, Nevada State Museum & Historical Society, Patchin Pictures and As We Knew It: Classic Las Vegas.
