HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: Monday, a five- to six-mile moderate hike to Red Spring with some scrambling. On Tuesday, a six- to seven-mile moderate hike on Escarpment Base Trail. On Wednesday, a three and a half-mile moderate hike on Arnight Knoll Loop. On Friday, a three-mile family hike through Pine Creek. Also on Friday, an easy, one-mile family hike at Lost Creek and a three-mile moderate night hike at Red Springs. On Saturday, a moderate, four-mile hike to Oak Creek Canyon. Also Saturday, an eight-mile strenuous hike with a 2,600-foot elevation gain at North Peak (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www.aroundthebendfriends.com

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, a painting class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies are provided. On Thursday, a canyon clean-up is scheduled. On Saturday, a Nevada Day celebration for 2-10 year olds. Dress in Western gear for crafts, games, snacks and stories about Nevada history (515-5367).
