Red Rock Canyon: A moderate four-mile hike to The Muffins will take place Monday. On Tuesday, there will be a moderate three-mile dog hike through Pine Creek and a strenuous seven-mile round-trip hike above Black Velvet Canyon with a 1,100-foot elevation gain. Wednesday's events will include a moderate three-mile hike in Pine Creek Canyon to look for wildflowers and bighorn sheep. A moderate six-mile hike at White Rock Loop will be on Friday. On Saturday, there is a moderate four-mile hike on Arrow Canyon Road searching for wildlife, fossils and petroglyphs. Also on Saturday, there is a moderate three-mile hike to look back into history of some of the oldest rock formations. More Saturday hikes will include a strenuous six-mile round-trip at Rainbow Spring and a moderate four-mile hike to Fossil Ridge. A four-mile strenuous hike to Turtlehead Peak will take place April 19 with a view sweeping across the Red Rock Escarpment to the Las Vegas Valley, a 2,000-foot gain (515-5367).

Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center: "Bats in our Belfry," a program about the mammal man has tried to emulate, will be presented Tuesday, twice an hour from 1 to 4 p.m. "Plants for Kids," a program about the blooming plants of spring, will be presented April 19. Children 4 to 8 years old will have several activities to complete relating to plants of the Mojave Desert.

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
