Red Rock Canyon: On Monday there is a moderate four-mile hike along the Meonkopi trail in hopes of seeing early wildflowers in bloom. Tuesday's events will include a very strenuous six-mile hike up the south fork of Pine Creek Canyon, past Mescalito and several canyon junctions, and end at one of the most beautiful spots in Red Rock Canyon. Be prepared for three miles of intense rock scrambling and possibly water. Wednesday will feature an easy 1/2-mile walk to the pictograph and petroglyph site in Willow Spring. On Friday, join this moderate two-mile hike into the wild world of Red Rock Canyon to see what is watching us as we enter their world. Also on Friday is a moderate 3.5-mile hike along the Arnight Knoll Loop to look for wildflowers and wildlife. Saturday's events will include a strenuous six-mile hike over the natural bridge to see the hidden forest and the majestic view at the summit of Bridge Mountain; also a moderate four-mile hike through Pine Creek and stop at the Homestead foundation. A moderate four-mile hike from Pine Creek to Icebox Canyon by the way of Dale's Trail and a moderate three-mile hike on the White Rock Loop will take place March 29 (515-5367).

The Desert Riders Club of Nevada: The Las Vegas Desert Riders Club of Nevada, a local chapter of the Honda Rider's Club of America, meets at 9 a.m. the second Saturday of the month at Carter Power Sports, 6725 S. Decatur Blvd. All motorcycles are welcome (795-2000).

Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center: "Tort Talks," a program about Nevada's state reptile, the desert tortoise, will be presented Wednesday, ongoing from 9:30-11:30 a.m. On Friday there will be a program about the different types of cactus in Red Rock Canyon. Children 3-10 years old can make a craft and listen to a story. "Bats are a Blast," a program all about bats, will take place Saturday. Children 5-10 years will learn all about the different kinds of bats in Red Rock Canyon with a hands-on activity and a craft (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
