HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, wear a patriotic shirt or hat for an easy-to-moderate, 3-mile hike on the Moenkopi trail; ages 12 and older. On Tuesday night, learn the stories behind the constellations and the moon on a moderate, 2½-mile hike along Fossil Ridge; ages 12 and older. On Wednesday, go bird-watching on an easy, 1- to 2-mile morning hike.

Mount Charleston: On Friday, take a 3-mile hike to the top of Cathedral Rock; ages 12 and older. On Friday, enjoy an easy, half-mile walk to Corn Creek Spring, a major bird-watching area and prime habit for aquatic plants and animals.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people older than 50 and interested in hiking and related social activities plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hikes, call 228-0773 or visit the club’s website, www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, ride along on a geology field trip around the Scenic Drive; ages 10 and older. On Tuesday, the summer series presentation "What is Wild?" examines the lives of tame and wild animals using stories, games, art, music and movement; ages 2 to 7. On Wednesday, attend a tabletop presentation on the birds of Red Rock, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Saturday, meet and talk with Bureau of Land Management climbing ranger Nick Walendziak. On Sunday, children ages 5 to 10 can explore why they feel differently about certain animals and learn more about them.
