Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Future Naturalists: Bring the children, ages 2-5, for an easy one-mile exploration and introduction to the environment around Las Vegas on Tuesday. Limited space (515-5367).

Red Rock Canyon, Rain Tree via Trail Canyon: Tuesday, a strenuous seven-mile, out and back, hike with a 2,300-foot gain (515-5367).

Red Rock Canyon, Moenkopi Loop: An easy to moderate two and one-half-mile morning hike Wednesday (515-5367).

Red Rock Canyon, Fletcher Canyon & Spring: Saturday, a moderate three-plus mile hike through lush forest trees (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people, 50 years and over, interested in hiking and related social activities will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Santa Fe Casino, 4949 N. Rancho Drive, South Parking Garage, on the left of Level 3, for a moderate three-hour hike at Mount Charleston (642-2285).

Sierra Club: The Southern Nevada Group will hike at Mount Charleston on Saturday, followed by a picnic, open to all from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., at the Old Mill picnic area. Club will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, condiments and picnic supplies. Attendees are asked to bring salads, side dishes, snacks and drinks to share. U.S. Forest Service: Meet at the upper trailhead, near the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, for a three- to four-mile round-trip hike along the Upper Bristlecone Trail on Saturday. Bring water, sunscreen, binoculars and hiking boots. To register, call 515-5400.

Red Rock Canyon, South Loop: A strenuous four-mile hike, with a 1,400-foot gain, through an avalanche area Aug. 12 (515-5367).

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, New Moon: Meet at the tour gate Aug. 12 at 7:45 p.m. for a two-hour hike with some bouldering at Sandstone Canyon. Arrive 15 minutes early, as the park gates close when the hike starts. No dogs or children under 12 years old allowed. For details, call 875-4141.

Red Rock Canyon, Griffith Peak via Harris Spring Road: A strenuous 10-mile hike, with a 2,656-foot gain, Aug. 12, to the third highest peak in the Spring Mountain Range (515-5367).

Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club: A 6:15 a.m. moderate to fast 15-20 mile road ride is scheduled for Wednesday. Meet at the NuVision Cyclery on West Lake Mead Boulevard between Rampart Boulevard and Scholar Lane. (228-1333). There will be a 30-plus mile, moderate and hilly, ride on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 a.m., and a 30 to 50-plus mile long grade ride on Saturday at 7 a.m. Meet behind Starbucks on West Charleston Boulevard and Town Center Drive.
