Lake Mead National Recreation Area: Monday, a moderate six-mile hike up Lovell Canyon to where the borox mineral colemananite was mined. Highlights include Rainbow Canyon and a pass through Lake Mead's scenic narrow canyon. Saturday, an easy 11/2-mile moonlight hike. Nov. 25, will feature a six-mile moderate hike to the remnants of an old mine, returning through Lovell Wash. Contact the Alan Bible Visitor Center at 293-8990.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, North Peak: Wednesday, an eight-mile strenuous hike and climb to the sandstone formation (515-5367).

Red Rock Canyon, Bird Spring Mountains: Tuesday, a strenuous seven-mile hike with a 1,200-foot elevation gain (515-5367).

Sierra Club: Join the Southern Nevada Group Thursday for an easy to moderate seven-mile hike beginning at Mount Spring summit, past Bootleg Spring, and top out above Spring Mountain Ranch. On Friday, an eight-mile moderate hike with some rock scrambling on top of high sandstone bluffs. An eight-mile easy to moderate hike will be on Saturday at the Valley of Fire loop. Anniversary Mine at Lake Mead: A six-mile moderate hike to remnants of the mining operations will be Nov. 25 (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people, 50 years and over, interested in hiking and related social activities will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot in front of Best Buy, at Charleston Boulevard and I-215 in Summerlin, for a moderate three-hour hike at Red Rock (642-2285).
