HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, part one of an easy, 2-mile hike to look for Gila monsters. On Thursday, part two of an easy, 2-mile Gila monster hike. On Friday, an easy, ½-mile hike at Corn Creek. On May 1, a moderate, 3-mile hike through the lower part of Gateway Canyon (515-5367).

Around The Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a table-top presentation in the visitor center on animal adaptations at Red Rock. on Tuesday, a no pressure art class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies are included. On Friday, a canyon cleanup. On Saturday, book club discussing "It Happened in Nevada" by Elizabeth Gibson. A copy of the book is available at the Elements Book Store at the visitor center. On May 1, a presentation between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the visitor center on animals (515-5367).

Valley of Fire: On Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., a slide program in the visitor center on Valley of Fire's vegetation (397-2088).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
