HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Wednesday, a moderate 3.3-mile wildlife and wildflower hike to La Madre Spring. This hike travels past a few old foundations up to a man-made guzzler that is naturally spring-fed and provides a water source for many forms of life in the area. For ages 12 and older. On Sunday, a moderate 2½-mile hike to Fossil Ridge for a scenic view and discussion of geology. For ages 10 and older.
Around The Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.
OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a table-top presentation in the visitors center on vision as an example of animal adaptations. On Tuesday, an art class for ages 15 and older (supplies included). On Friday, volunteers will go out on a canyon cleanup project. On Saturday, butterfly presentations will be given at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the visitors center, along with table presentations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On May 29 , a table-top presentation will introduce Paiute culture, including basketry and herbal remedies.
