HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 3-mile hike with some scrambling on the Grand Circle. Tuesday, a moderately strenuous, 7-mile hike at Bird Spring Range. On Wednesday, a 5-mile, moderate hike on the Blue Diamond Bike Trails. Also Wednesday, a moderate, 2½-mile night hike at Fossil Ridige. Bring a flashlight. On Thrursday, a moderate, 2½-mile hike with a 500-foot elevation gain at Calico Tanks. On Saturday, a moderate, 3- to 4-mile hike at Sandstone Quarry (515-5367).
Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, an ongoing table top exhibit on the desert tortoise in the visitor's center from 1:30-3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, a "no pressure" art class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary and supplies are provided. On Thursday, a table top exhibit on the animals of Red Rock Canyon. On Friday, a canyon clean-up is scheduled. On Saturday, an art class for those 4 and older focusing on earth tones. No experience necessary and supplies are provided. On Jan. 16, a table top presentation on animal habitats in the visitor center (515-5367).
Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org. On Thursday, Amy Gilreath of Far Western will be talking about research in the Gold Butte area of eastern Clark County at 7 p.m. at College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd. (254-7883).
