HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a 6-mile moderate hike along the White Rock Loop trail. On Tuesday, a strenuous 8-mile hike with one mile of bouldering at Black Velvet Canyon. On Wednesday, a moderate 5-mile hike with some scrambling at Echo Canyon. On Friday, a moderate 4-mile hike with a 900-foot elevation gain at The Muffins. On Saturday, an easy to moderate 3-mile hike at Calico Basin. Also Saturday, a strenuous, 3-mile hike with some rock climging at Calico Hills and Tanks (515-5367).

Around The Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Friday, a canyon clean-up is scheduled. On Saturday, a book discussion on "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" by JoAnn Charter and Chriss Enss. Copies may be purchased at Elements Gift Shop at the visitor center. Also Saturday, a program for children ages 3-10 on spiders. On Jan. 30, a tabletop presentation on different kinds of animal vision. The program is ongoing in the visitor center (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
