Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 4-mile hike down the Pine Creek Trail. On Tuesday, a strenuous, 6-mile hike with a 1,100-foot elevation gain at Hollow Rock Peak. Also Tuesday, a moderate, 3-mile night hike at Echo Canyon. Bring a flashlight. Also, Tuesday an easy, 2-mile hike along the Moenkopi Trail. On Friday, a moderate, 3-mile hike at Pine Creek. On Oct. 10, a moderate, 3-mile hike with some scrambling at Cave Canyon. Bring a flashlight (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS:

Red Rock Canyon: On Friday, a canyon clean-up. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., get information about the Mojave Desert from different organizations and vendors. Also Saturday, a slide show on new exhibits being built at the Nevada State Museum's new location at the Springs Preserve. RSVP requested. On Oct. 10, an ongoing program from 10 a.m. to noon on the environment of the Mojave Desert (515-5367).

Valley of Fire: On Saturday, a presentation on the Anasazi, from 11 a.m. to noon at Atlatl Rock Campground Site No. 31 (397-2088).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
