HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate 3- to 4-mile hike to The Muffins. On Tuesday, a very strenuous 5-mile hike in the Calico Hills. Also Tuesday, a moderate 3-mile moonlight hike on the Moenkopi trail. Bring a flashlight. On Friday, an easy ½-mile hike at Corn Creek Spring. Also Friday, a moderately strenuous 4-mile hike along La Madare Spring (515-5367).
Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.
OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, an art class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies are provided. On Saturday, an ongoing program from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the visitor center featuring stories about nature. Also Saturday, a program for 2-10 year olds on animal movements. Also Saturday, a nature-based art class for children over 4 and adults. All supplies are provided (515-5367).
Valley of Fire: On Saturday, a discussion of the major Ice Age animals that lived in the area from 11 a.m. to noon, 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. at the visitor center. Also Saturday, a campfire talk about Valley of Fire's features and history from 6-7 p.m. (397-2088).
