Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 4-mile hike with an 800-foot elevation gain on Stanley B. Springs trail at Mount Charleston. On Tuesday, a strenuous, 6-mile hike with a 1,400-foot elevation gain at Little Zion. On Friday, a strenuous, 6-mile hike with a 1,500-foot elevation gain at Mount Charleston to see the Rain Tree. On Saturday, a moderate, 3-mile hike as part of a road trip to Delamar ghost town for those 13 and up. On Sept. 12, a moderate, 2½-mile hike to look at fall wildflowers (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Friday, an interactive program for 3-10 year olds othe different types of cactus in Red Rock Canyon. Also Friday, a canyon clean up is scheduled. On Saturday, a program for 2-5 year olds about the reptiles of Red Rock Canyon. Also Saturday, a lecture from John McGuire from Wind Sail Receptor, a company involved in wind energy. Space is limited, so a RSVP is recommended (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.

Paralyzed Veterans of America will be hosting a free gun clinic with National Rifle Association instructors at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 24. Also Sept. 24 is a practice and registration for the last trap shoot on the Paralyzed Veterans of America national tour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an informal reception at 4 p.m. On Sept. 25 and 26 is a year-end trap shoot at 9 a.m. On Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. is a banquet awards ceremony at Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway. On Sept. 27 is a pistol shoot at 10 a.m. All shooting events will be at the Clark County Shooting Park, 11357 N. Decatur Blvd. For more information, call 646-0040.
