HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 5-mile hike at Harris Slot Canyon. On Wednesday, a moderate, 3-mile star hike at Fossil Ridge (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, a presentation on the nocturnal world of owls in the visitor center, ongoing from 1-4 p.m. On Friday, a program for 5-10 year olds on water in the Mojave Desert. On Saturday, a program for 4-10 year olds about fossils found in the Mojave Desert. Also Saturday, a nature-based art class. No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided. On Saturday, the Las Vegas Astronomical Society will have telescopes on hand to view objects in the night sky. The program runs from 6:30-10:30 p.m., with the gates closing at 8 p.m. (515-5367).
