Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 4-mile hike to Fletcher Canyon. On Thursday, a moderate, 3½-mile hike in Cottonwood Valley. On Saturday, an easy, 2-mile hike on the Moenkopi Trail. Also Saturday, a moderate, 3-mile hike to Oak Creek. On May 9, a strenuous, 3-mile hike with some scrambling at Red Cap (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, a presentation at the visitor center from 1-3 p.m. on the birds of Red Rock Canyon. On Thursday, ongoing from 10 a.m. to noon in the visitor center, a discussion on the desert tortoise. On Friday, a program for 5-10 year olds about desert survival skills. On Saturday, a program for children about how animals take care of their young. Also Saturday, a program with Red Rock's law enforcement rangers about safety issues and career opportunities. Space is limited (515-5367).
