HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 4-mile hike with an 800-foot elevation game up part of Rocky Gap Road. Also Monday, an easy hike around the Moenkopi Loop. On Tuesday, an 8-mile moderately strenuous hike around the south end of the Calico Hills. On Friday, an easy, 21/2-mile hike around the Moenkopi Loop Trail. Also Friday, a 41/2-mile moderate hike to Calico II. On Saturday, an easy, 1/2-mile hike at Corn Creek Spring. Also on Saturday, an easy, 21/2-mile hike at Calico Basin and a 3-mile, moderate hike with some scrambling at Ice Box Canyon. On Feb. 21, a 3.3-mile hike in the North Bowl of Fire (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www.aroundthebendfriends.com

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, a 20-minute discussion ongoing from 1-3 p.m. in the visitor center about predators of Southern Nevada. On Thursday, an ongoing program in the visitor center from 10 a.m. to noon on the desert tortoise. On Friday, a program for 5-10 year olds about the geology of Red Rock Canyon. On Saturday, the Las Vegas Astronomical Society will have member telescopes in the visitor center to view the night sky. An entrance fee will be charged. Also Saturday, a program for 4-9 year olds about snow. On Feb. 21, an art class for those 4 and older. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included (515-5367).
