HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, observe the geological features on a moderate, 3-mile hike to the Calico Tanks; for ages 10 and older. On Oct. 2, take an easy-to-moderate, 3-mile hike up Fossil Ridge; for ages 10 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy to moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, participate in an art class at Red Rock; for ages 15 and older. On Friday, help clean up trash along a trail. Also on Friday, help remove invasive plant species from the canyon. Also on Friday, learn about Nevada's state reptile, the desert tortoise, in a tabletop presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Visitor Center. On Saturday, kids ages 2 to 7 can learn about tracks and the animals that make them. Also on Saturday, the Las Vegas Astronomical Society will provide telescopes to view objects in the night sky from 6 to 10 p.m.
