HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: At 5 p.m. Monday, learn the constellations and some of the famous stories behind them on a moderate, three-mile night at Fossil Ridge; for ages 12 and older. Bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. At 9 a.m. Friday, learn the basics of nature photography on a moderate, three-mile hike along the Pine Creek Trail. Bring a camera and a tripod if you have one. The program starts with a presentation on photography techniques at the visitor center. At 9 a.m. Dec. 23, join a geologist and a naturalist to discuss the geological features, plants and animals encountered on a moderate, three-mile hike along the Calico Hills Trail; for ages 10 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: At 9 a.m. Tuesday, create a masterpiece in an art class for ages 15 and older. All materials will be provided. From 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, view the types of venomous animals found at Red Rock, and learn what to do if you encounter one of them, in a tabletop exhibit at the visitor center. Living and preserved specimens will be on display, and discussion and questions are encouraged.
