HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, discuss the geology, plants and wildlife encountered on an easy-to-moderate, three-mile hike at First Creek; for ages 10 and older. On Wednesday, come along on a moderate, 3.3-mile hike at La Madre Spring and learn how natives used natural resources to survive; for ages 15 and older. On Sept. 23, observe plants and animals at some of Red Rock's springs on an easy, three-mile hike; for ages 10 and older.

Desert National Wildlife Refuge: Bird-watch on a half-mile walk to Corn Creek Spring.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, view some of the arachnids, reptiles, birds and mammals found in Red Rock in a tabletop presentation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the visitor center.
