Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, join a geologist to discuss the rock formations, plants and animals encountered on a moderate, two-mile evening hike along the Calico Hills East Trail; for ages 10 and older. On Thursday, join a naturalist for an easy hike to observe wild burros; for ages 15 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. Red Rock Canyon: On Aug. 6, attend a discussion about bats, then observe some of them at Red Springs. On Aug. 7, create your own beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings in a jewelry-making workshop for ages 12 and older.

Free fishing clinic: The Nevada Department of Wildlife will conduct a free fishing clinic at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10 at Floyd Lamb Park. NDOW volunteers will teach basics such as bait and lure selection, casting techniques and knot tying. A Nevada fishing license is required for participants 12 and older.
