Outdoor activities around Southern Nevada

HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, come along on a moderate, 2½-mile geology and nature hike to the Keystone Thrust Fault, for ages 10 and older. Also on Monday, gaze at the stars and learn the stories of the constellations on a moderate, three-mile night hike for ages 12 and older. On Feb. 5, take an easy, half-mile walk to Corn Creek Spring. Also on Feb. 5, go for an easy, one-mile hike along the Fire Ecology loop.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, learn about the animals of Red Rock in a tabletop exhibit from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the visitor center. On Tuesday, view some of the types of animals that live in the canyon in a tabletop presentation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the visitor center. On Saturday, meet Mascot Max, a representation of Mojave Max and learn interesting facts about the desert tortoise from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the visitor center.

Archaeo-Nevada Society, along with the Bureau of Land Management, seeks volunteers to help with Red Rock Canyon conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
