HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, view the Discovery Channel documentary "The Day the Earth Almost Died," about the great Permian mass extinction, then go for a moderate, 2½-mile hike to see Permian-period fossils and scenic views of Red Rock; for ages 10 and older. Also on Monday, bring a flashlight for a moderate, three-mile night hike to La Madre Spring; for ages 12 and older. On Feb. 12, come along for an easy, three-mile hike focusing on the wildflowers and animals around Red Rock's springs; for ages 6 and older. Also on Feb. 12, take an easy, two-mile hike around the Moenkopi Loop; for ages 5 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Wednesday, make a beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings using materials that resemble the colors of Red Rock in a workshop for ages 12 and older. On Friday, help pick up trash along a trail. On Saturday, children ages 2 to 6 can learn about animals and the adaptations that help them survive. Also on Saturday, BLM Ranger Nick Walendziak will share his knowledge of rock climbing.
