HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, study the geology and nature on a moderately strenuous, 4-mile hike from Calico Basin to Gateway Canyon; for ages 10 and older. Also on Monday, go for a moderate, 3-mile night hike at Red Spring; for ages 10 and older. On Thursday, enjoy a moderate, 3-mile hike to the waterfall at First Creek; for ages 10 and older. On Dec. 11, take a look back in history, viewing rocks and fossils formed during the Permian period, on a moderate, 3-mile hike along Fossil Ridge; for ages 10 and older. Also on Dec. 11, explore Red Cap on a strenuous, 3-mile hike that includes rock scrambling; for ages 15 and older.

OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, learn about the animals of Red Rock in a tabletop exhibit from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the visitor center. On Tuesday, view the types of venomous animals that live in the canyon; from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the visitor center. On Friday, help clean up a trail. On Saturday, kids ages 2 to 7 can learn about birds through stories, activities, music and a craft.
Archaeo-Nevada Society, along with the Bureau of Land Management, seeks volunteers to help with Red Rock Canyon conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
