VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Carpenter Canyon cleanup scheduled

In celebration of Public Lands Day, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is hosting a cleanup project at Carpenter Canyon located on the Pahrump side of the Spring Mountains.

NDOW representatives will meet volunteers Saturday at the agency's Las Vegas office, 4747 Vegas Drive. The group will leave for Carpenter Canyon at 8 a.m. and should arrive at the trail head around 10 a.m.

The project should be finished around 1 p.m., with the return trip getting under way by 2 p.m. Bring a lunch. For information, contact Christopher Pietrafeso at NDOW 486-5127, Ext. 3850.

HUNTER EDUCATION

Registration for classes goes online

Registering for Nevada's mandatory hunter education class just got a whole lot easier and much more convenient because the registration process can now be completed online. All one has to do now is visit the agency's Web site (www.ndow.org) and click on the appropriate link.

"One of those links can be found right on the main page where it says 'Register for Hunter Ed,' " said Martin Olson, coordinator of the Southern Region Hunter Education Program for NDOW. "Another can be found on the hunter education page."

ANGLING OPPORTUNITY

Learn to catch Lake Mead stripers

The Nevada Department of Wildlife and the National Park Service are hosting a free seminar on striped bass fishing, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Alan Bible Visitors Center at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

TWO-PART COURSE

Introduction to fly-fishing class set

The Nevada department of Wildlife will be having a free Introduction to Fly Fishing class on Oct. 6. Participants will learn the basics of fly-fishing such as knots, terminology, equipment and casting techniques.

This is a two-part course. The first half of the class will be at the NDOW office on Vegas Drive and will begin at 8 a.m. The second half of the class, which focuses on casting, will be at Floyd Lamb Park beginning at noon. Class size is limited.
