Perla de Oro opens outdoor music series

A new musical series featuring some of Las Vegas' emerging artists will take place in the outdoor bandstand area of the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Mariachi Perla de Oro, an all-girl band, kicks off the series at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Call 229-1515 for information.

Perla de Oro was founded by three teenaged musicians: Raquel Jara, Karina Chaidez and Karla Romero.

This youthful group includes 10 members, all of whom possess a shared love of traditional Mexican music. Most of the members are still in high school.

The group performs traditional Mariachi music. The music is lively, danceable and steeped in folk traditions of the diverse areas of Mexico.
