R-J columnist wins award

Review-Journal columnist and entertainment writer Doug Elfman has been presented a 2009 National Entertainment Journalism Award for criticism by the Los Angeles Press Club.

Elfman, who writes the Vegasland column for the Review-Journal, received a third-place honor in the Print Critic category in the second annual competition. Review-Journal music critic Jason Bracelin received a second-place honor in the category last year.

Finalists and honorees in the competition came from publications, Web sites, and radio and television stations of all sizes from across the country.

The first-place winner in the Print Critic category was Ella Taylor of the LA Weekly while second place went to Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times.

Elfman has won several national awards for the Review-Journal, including first-place wins for Best Arts & Entertainment Commentary and Best Feature Special Reporting from the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors.
