Re: LAX
Listen up all you Christina Aguilera fans and mark Saturday, May 31 on your calendar. That’s the night the pop princess will be on hand in LAX Nightclub at Luxor. Aguilera is an investor in the club, and chances are good that she will give an impromptu performance as well. The party will begin at 10 p.m. with stars expected to walk the red carpet. If you want more information and/or table reservations call (702) 262-4LAX or visit www.LAXthenightclub.come.
If you prefer country music, you want to head over to The Cannery, which will have its Country Summer Bash featuring country music stars Mark Chesnutt, Jason Michael Carroll and Luke Bryan. There will be plenty of food, drinks and exhibitor booths and it all takes place Saturday, May 31, at The Club, beginning at 5 p.m. Should be a lot of fun. Tickets are $25 including tax and fees and can be purchased at the Cannery’s ticket sales counter located at the front desk. You can also buy them by calling (866) 287-4643, or by visiting www.cannerycasinos.com.
And if neither of the top two items are your cup of tea, you might want to take in Disney’s huge hit, "High School Musical," that will be performed on stage at the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood, June 4-8. Show times are 7:30 p.m. with additional 2 p.m. matinee performances on June 5, 7 and 8. Ticket prices range from $26 to $61, with a limited number of premium seats available at $123.
You can get tickets by visiting the Theatre for the Performing Arts box office, calling Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000, going to any Ticketmaster outlet or online at ticketmaster.com/hsmvegas. Group reservations of 10 or more are available by calling Scott Snowden, director of Group Sales, at (702) 785-5394, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or emailing SSnowden@BASEentertainment.com. Great entertainment for the whole family.
OK, this item is for bikers only, and being one myself, I know that it will interest a lot of people. This Sunday, May 18, Hogs & Heifers Saloon in downtown Las Vegas is hosting Hog Wild for Kids, a charity motorcycle ride and event with all proceeds benefiting Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation’s Camp Cartwheel, a camp for children undergoing care/treatment with NVCCF and their siblings.
The ride will take you along the scenic back roads through Red Rock and out to The Mountain Springs Saloon for a rest stop and group photo before returning to Hogs & Heifers Saloon at 201 N. Third St.
Accompanied by a hardy, complimentary breakfast, registration for the event will be from 8 to 10 a.m. the day of the ride, with kick-stands up at 10:30. Registration fees are $20 per rider and $10 per passenger due at check-in and include the after party (non-ride participants are encouraged to donate $5 for the party to benefit NVCCF.)
Following the ride, a rockin’ after-party and barbeque will celebrate the day’s festivities. Monk and the Po’ Boys will perform inside the bar with a live auction and raffle including show tickets, dinners, apparel and other items. All proceeds raised will benefit the August 2008 session of Camp Cartwheel. This is a great cause, the price is right and you will have one helluva good time.
Golfers aren’t going to like this news, but here it is anyway. Shadow Creek, one of the country’s most exclusive golf courses, will close temporarily for course enhancements beginning Monday, May 19. The course, perennially ranked among Golf Digest’s top 10 courses in the country, is scheduled to re-open in December 2008. The enhancement project will be overseen by original course architect Tom Fazio.
The primary goal of the closure is to rebuild and reseed the tee boxes and greens, upgrade the course’s irrigation system and build a world-class, short-game area. The short-game facility, intended to reflect the diverse and intriguing shot values evident throughout the course, will feature multiple greens for guests to pitch and putt as well as practice bunker shots. Beginning in October, Shadow Creek will begin accepting tee times in anticipation of the December reopening

Hats off to the Silverton. Citysearch, a leading online lifestyle guide, has named the resort “Best Budget Hotel” and the property’s 117,000-gallon aquarium “Best Free Attraction” in the Best of Citysearch 2008 awards.
Winner of both the audience and editorial award, Citysearch praises Silverton as a budget-minded hotel, offering all-inclusive amenities characteristic of an upscale, contemporary luxury lodge-themed property. With Silverton’s online “Hot Deals,” guests can often stay in one of the property’s newly remodeled rooms for only $59.99 a night.
In addition, the Best of Citysearch 2008 awards list Silverton’s117,000-gallon artificial reef as the audience winner of Las Vegas’ “Best Free Attraction.” The aquarium is comprised of over 4,000 tropical fish from all over the world, and features four species of stingrays and six species of sharks. The aquarium is home to two different underwater shows including an interactive fish feeding show where a Silverton marine biologist dives into the aquarium with a full-face communication mask that allows him or her to interact with guests while feeding the animals. In addition, the underwater paradise houses several live mermaids. Creating a unique blend of sexiness and style, the mermaids entertain onlookers as they freely swim about five to six times per day, Thursday through Sunday.
Good luck and I'll see you on the Strip. And don't forget to check out www.valleyblogs.com. If you have a question or a Las Vegas experience you would like to share with my readers, please e-mail me at lennylasvegas@gmail.com Please include your full name and the city or town where you live.
