Registration opens for variety of city classes

The Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services offers dozens of classes that allow individuals to develop their creativity.

Registration opens Saturday for classes at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.; East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.; Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North; and West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Registration closes Nov. 29 for the 10-week session that begins Dec. 4 at Reed Whipple Cultural Center and West Las Vegas Arts Center.

The registration process will continue through Jan. 3 for the classes at Charleston Heights Arts Center and the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center. The six-week session at these two locations begins Jan. 8.

Charleston Heights Arts Center has added intermediate ballet and contemporary jazz to its curriculum of beginning ballet, ballroom, Latin club, salsa, tango and swing classes. Call 229-6383 for information.

East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center's roster includes a variety of dance classes. Additional classes include computers, Spanish conversation, group and private music lessons along with a variety of visual arts classes. Also available are three-week workshops in handmade cards and raku firing.

Reed Whipple Cultural Center's classes include drawing, pottery for beginning to advanced students, youth ceramics, hula, music appreciation, and private guitar and voice lessons. Call 229-6211.

West Las Vegas Arts Center offers art, ethnic crafts, African dance and drum, ballet, hip hop, tap, tae kwon do, piano, voice, music production, studio engineering and youth theater. New classes include six weeks of instruction in writing conducted by author Brenda Billups and an one-day praise dance and sign arts workshop. Call 229-4800 for information.

Children and teens interested in theater can enroll in a variety of classes offered by the award-winning Rainbow Company Youth Theatre.
