EVENTS

Las Vegas BBYO, a Jewish teen movement, will have a kickoff event for teens from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Las Vegas Ice Center, 9295 W. Flamingo Road. The fee is $16 and includes skate rental and dinner (686-6097).

The Ramakrishna Vedanta Center, 10732 Balsam Creek, will have a lecture on "Mystery of Time: Measure of Change against the Changeless" by Swami Atmavidyananda at 6 p.m. Aug. 21. Arati will begin at 5 p.m. (646-4889).

The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 9041 S. Pecos Road, Suite 4000, Henderson, will have a celebration of the Rev. Helen McPeak's ministry with evening prayer at 6 on Aug. 29. A reception will follow (693-4100).

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will have their annual retreat on Sept. 1 at St. Viator's Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. followed by a continental breakfast. The Rev. John McShane, Nevada state chaplain, will be the retreat priest. The fee is $10 for the retreat, breakfast and a light lunch. The retreat is open to members and nonmembers. Women who are older than 18, and not currently a member of a CDA court, may attend (204-5083).

SERVICES

St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 131 N. Ninth St., will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 8 a.m., noon and 5:30 p.m. services on Wednesday (596-5041).

CLASSES

Child Evangelism Fellowship will hold two training classes for new Good News Club teachers. The classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Calvary Chapel Green Valley, 2615 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson, and on Sept. 8 at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road. Lunch will be provided. For reservations, call 396-8363 or 878-8603.

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., offers English as a Second Language conversational classes at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays (541-1952 or 732-2052).

Community Baptist Church, 245 E. Foster Ave., Henderson, offers a free reading program for all ages from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays (565-0071).

SINGLES GROUPS

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, Temple Sinai and Congregation Ner Tamid offer a variety of programs for Jewish singles of all ages in Las Vegas and Henderson. For details, call the Jewish Community Center at 794-0090, Temple Sinai at 254-5110 or Congregation Ner Tamid at 733-6292.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church sponsors a singles group for people 45 and older (804-8365, ext. 7333).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
