The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host a free organ recital with Dr. Dongho Lee at 7:30 p.m. April 19 at Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway.

EVENTS

The Silver State Ushers of Nevada will present “Officers on Parade” at 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Monroe Ave. The fundraiser will showcase the newly elected and appointed officers of the organization, which features church ushers, nurses and greeters, and include a performance by the male chorus of Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. The Jewish Federation of Las Vegas and the Board of Rabbis of Southern Nevada will host an observance of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) at 7 p.m. Sunday at Midbar Kodesh Temple, 1940 Paseo Verde Parkway, Henderson (454-4848).

The Ramakrishna-Vedanta Center, 10732 Balsam Creek Road, will have arati and a talk on “Spiritual Healing” by Swami Atmavidyananda beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday (646-4889).

J.O.Y. Ministry is having its spring Ladies Prayer Breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon April 13 in Social Hall “B” at Sun City Aliante Community Center, 7394 Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas. The entrance fee is $5 . For reservations, call 647-0015.

South Hills Church Community, 9220 Manhattan Road, Henderson, will have its annual Student Ministries Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13. Proceeds from the sale will be used to lower the cost of summer camps for students (616-6700).

The Kannon Temple of Nevada, 1600 E. Sahara Ave., will have a two-day Buddhist seminar for beginners starting at 9:30 a.m. April 13. Weekly Sunday chanting and meditation will begin at 10:30 a.m. (396-6276).

Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” with a public reading at 6:30 p.m. April 16. The public reading is part of a worldwide event sponsored by the Birmingham Public Library (735-7655).

The youth group of Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, will have a swap meet and car wash from 7 a.m. to noon April 20. The car wash will begin at 8:30 a.m. Parking spaces are available to sell items for $10 for church members and $25 for nonmembers. The group will also sell items for those who do not want to sell their own. Items will be accepted beginning April 18 (454-8484, ext. 245).

Calvary Chapel Spring Valley will have the Running with the Lions 5k, to benefit Calvary Chapel Christian School, at 8 a.m. April 20 at the school’s athletic field, 7175 W. Oquendo Drive. The 5k event is also the finale for the church and school-wide fitness program “Couch to 5k.” The event is open to the public. Adult registration is $35. Children’s registration is $25. New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).
