EVENTS

The Nevada Desert Experience will present the Desert Witness Event, a Nagasaki Day Vigil of Resistance and Sunrise Ceremony with Johnnie Bobb, chief of the Western Shoshone, friars and peace activists, in memory of victims of nuclearism, at 5 a.m. Thursday at Nevada National Security Site (exit U.S. Highway 95 North at Mercury). Las Vegas BBYO, a Jewish teen movement, will have a kickoff event for teens from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Las Vegas Ice Center, 9295 W. Flamingo Road. The fee is $16 and includes skate rental and dinner (686-6097).

The Ramakrishna Vedanta Center, 10732 Balsam Creek, will have a lecture on "Mystery of Time: Measure of Change Against the Changeless" by Swami Atmavidyananda at 6 p.m. Aug. 21. Arati will begin at 5 p.m. (646-4889).

SERVICES

Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St., will have Women's Day services at 8 and 11 a.m. Sunday with guest speaker Sandra Harris from Bethesda Church Of God In Christ (647-3071).

CLASSES

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill Lane, will offer day camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday. The camp is open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grade. Before- and after-care will also be available. For registration fees and more information, call 873-3589.

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 6670 W. Cheyenne Ave., will offer the free Sonrise National Park vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 645-1777.

MEETINGS

The Sathya Sai Baba Devotional Singing Group meets at 5 p.m. Sundays at 1128 Triumph Court (461-8655).

Hindu Temple & Jain Center of Las Vegas, 1701 Sageberry Drive, offers Balaji Abhishekam services at 10:45 a.m. the first Saturday of the month in the temple, and Aarti Pooja services at noon Sundays (304-9207).

SINGLES GROUPS

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, Temple Sinai and Congregation Ner Tamid offer a variety of programs for Jewish singles of all ages in Las Vegas and Henderson. For details, call the Jewish Community Center at 794-0090, Temple Sinai at 254-5110 or Congregation Ner Tamid at 733-6292.

New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church sponsors a singles group for people 45 and older (228-8311, ext. 7333 or 7334).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
