EVENTS

Calvary Community Assembly of God, 2900 N. Torrey Pines Drive, is offering the Summer Food Service Program weekdays through Aug. 23. Lunch is served from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The meal is free of charge. No registration is required. Ages 2 to 18 are eligible regardless of race, color, national origin, sex or disability.

United Methodist Social Ministries is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Through Aug. 23, meals will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Griffith United Methodist Church, 1701 E. Oakey Blvd. Lunch is free of charge. Ages 2 to 18 are eligible regardless of race, color, national origin, sex or disability.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and valley businesses will present the 12th annual Pioneer Day Parade and activities from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Henderson. The parade will begin at the LDS church at Fox Ridge Park, 411 N. Valle Verde Drive. Patriotic and pioneer-themed activities, dunk tanks, face painting and a pancake breakfast will follow the parade.

Author and religious scholar Reza Aslan will discuss his new book “Zealot — The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth” at 7 p.m. Monday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. A book signing and reception will follow the event. The event is free and open to the public.

CLASSES

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill Lane, will offer a summer day camp for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Aug. 9. The fee is $100 per week, and includes lunch. The camp will feature Bible activities, arts and crafts, and other activities. To register, call 873-3589.

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will offer “Splash in God’s Word” vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5-9 for kindergartners through fifth-graders. The fee is $5 per child. The registration deadline is Monday. The church will also offer “Super Charged Wednesdays,” for ages 6 to 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 14.
