School benefit concert features Wintley Phipps

"Power of a Dream," a benefit concert for Abundant Life Christian Academy, will feature Christian recording artist, pastor and speaker Wintley Phipps at 7 p.m. today in the Nicholas Horn Theatre at the College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas.

The concert is designed to coincide with the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday weekend. Advance tickets are $45, or $50 on the night of the concert.

There also will be a drawing to benefit the school. Ticket information is available by calling the theater box office, 651-4769.

Phipps has performed for President Barack Obama and appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Among his albums are "Power of Dream" and "Heal Our Land."

He also promotes youth empowerment and education. Phipps is the founder and chief executive officer of the United States Dream Academy, a nonprofit after-school program for the children of incarcerated parents.

Abundant Life Christian Academy, 1720 N. J St., features kindergarten through eighth grades.
